There is no single right answer to this question. How often your car needs valeting depends on mileage, where it is parked, how it is driven, and whether it already has any paint protection. What works for a low-mileage car kept on a private drive will not work for a high-mileage car parked on the street and driven daily.
There are really two separate questions here. The first is how often your car actually needs cleaning, based purely on how it is used. The second is what to book when you do, which depends less on your car and more on whether you are a new customer or already have an established routine with us. We will answer both in turn.
Part One: How Often Does Your Car Need Cleaning?
Most cars and drivers fall into one of four recognisable profiles. Find the one that matches your situation.
Daily Commuters & High Mileage: Every 2 to 4 Weeks
If you are driving daily, covering motorway miles, or parked on the street rather than under cover, your car is taking on a constant stream of road grime, brake dust, and traffic film. A clean every two to four weeks stops that contamination from bonding to the paintwork before it has chance to set.
During winter months, it is worth tightening that frequency toward the two-week end of the range, since road salt is highly corrosive and should not be left sitting on paintwork for long.
Families & Pet Owners: Every 3 to 5 Weeks
Family cars and cars carrying pets take a different kind of punishment, less about exterior road grime and more about what happens inside. Crumbs, mud, pet hair, and general daily wear build up quickly in the cabin. A clean every three to five weeks keeps the interior genuinely hygienic rather than just tidy, while also keeping pace with whatever exterior exposure comes from the school run or weekend trips.
Weekend or Garaged Cars: Every 8 to 10 Weeks
If your car covers relatively few miles, is kept under cover or on a private driveway, and already has some form of paint protection, you are in the best possible position. A clean every eight to ten weeks is enough to keep the paintwork in good condition without over-servicing a car that simply is not getting that dirty.
Even in this category, we would still recommend a more thorough clean at least once a year, ideally in spring, to properly remove any salt and grit residue that has built up over winter.
Show Cars & Business Vehicles: Every 4 to 6 Weeks
If your car represents your business, or you simply take pride in how it presents, consistency matters more than raw mileage. A clean every four to six weeks keeps presentation sharp at all times rather than letting it dip between bigger cleans. If your car does not currently have any paint protection, this is also a good stage to consider adding it, since a ceramic coating makes every wash after it noticeably faster and easier, and keeps the finish looking its best for longer between visits.

Part Two: What Should You Actually Book?
Knowing how often is only half the picture. What you book depends on whether you are starting fresh or already have a routine established with us.
If You Are a New Customer
Every car starts with one of our three core packages, depending on its current condition. The Essential valet covers a full exterior wash and interior tidy, suited to a car that is already in reasonable shape. The Full Valet goes deeper, with thorough interior cleaning and a longer-lasting protective finish. The Signature package is the complete treatment, including full interior extraction and an engine bay clean, and is best thought of as a one-off reset for a car that has not been properly looked after for some time rather than something to repeat on a fixed schedule.
A simple rule of thumb: if it has been more than two months since your car was last properly cleaned, an Essential valet will not be enough to deal with what has built up in that time. You will need a Full Valet as your starting point, regardless of which usage profile you fall into above.
Once your car has had a Full Valet or Signature, you become eligible for the Maintenance Plan, explained below.
If You Are a Returning Customer: The Maintenance Plan
If you have previously had a Full Valet or Signature with us, you are eligible to join our Maintenance Plan. It is designed specifically for returning customers who want to keep results consistent without paying for a full deep clean every time. Visits are capped at a maximum of eight weeks apart, and each one includes everything in the Essential package, including a two-month gloss shield finish, plus wheel and tyre care, a two-bucket contact wash, and a full interior vacuum.
Maintenance Plan pricing starts from £60 for a small car, rising to £80 for medium, £100 for large, and £120 for XL or 4x4 vehicles. It is not available to new customers, since it is built around picking up where a Full Valet or Signature left off rather than correcting neglected paintwork from scratch.
In practice, this means the path for most returning customers looks like this: start with a Full Valet or Signature to bring the car up to standard, then book the Maintenance Plan at an interval matching your profile above, up to a maximum of eight weeks apart. For families, weekend cars, and show or business vehicles, this fits comfortably within the plan's own cap. For daily commuters needing attention every two to four weeks, the Maintenance Plan still works as your baseline, but you may want to book more frequently than the eight-week maximum to properly keep pace with how hard the car is working.
If you have any questions on the right interval for your specific car, get in touch and we can advise based on how it is used.
Not Sure Which One Fits Your Car?
These bands are a useful starting point, but the honest answer is that the right frequency depends on several factors working together, not just one. We built a short valet frequency guide that takes less than a minute and gives you a personalised recommendation based on your mileage, parking situation, driving conditions, and current protection level.
The Bottom Line
Valeting too infrequently lets contamination bond to the paint, where it becomes harder and more expensive to remove. Valeting too often is simply an unnecessary cost. Matching the frequency to how your car is actually used is the most cost-effective way to keep it protected long term.
LXC Detailing covers Burnham, Maidenhead, Windsor, Marlow, and the surrounding areas across Berkshire and South Buckinghamshire. We come to your driveway, no water or power needed from you as standard.

It depends on mileage, parking, and exposure to the elements. Low mileage cars kept under cover can manage with a clean every eight to ten weeks. Daily drivers or cars exposed to road salt, coastal air, or heavy traffic generally need cleaning every two to four weeks to stop contamination bonding to the paint.
It depends on how the car is used rather than a fixed rule. Daily commuters and high mileage cars benefit from a clean every two to four weeks, family and pet-owning households every three to five weeks, show cars and business vehicles every four to six weeks, and weekend or garaged cars every eight to ten weeks. Returning customers can keep to this kind of interval through our Maintenance Plan, capped at a maximum of eight weeks apart.

Yes. A car with a ceramic coating or sealant resists contamination better and can go longer between full valets. Cars without any protection need more frequent attention to stop dirt and grime bonding to the paintwork.
Yes. Road salt is highly corrosive and should be removed as often as possible during winter months. Tightening your cleaning frequency toward the lower end of your usual interval during this period helps protect the paintwork and underbody.
